Alix Hamilton

Co-founder of Ambrosia Ensembles

Alix’s passion for music started at the age of 4 when she started learning the tissue box and ruler as preparation for the violin. From an early age she was attending conferences and conventions giving her the opportunity to have lessons from some of the best teachers from around the world. Throughout primary school Alix’s musical development was extended though the study of clarinet and vocal training. During this time she was also a member of the Australian Youth Choir, and later went on to join the West Australian Youth Music Association (WAYMA) as part of the orchestra, of which she is still a member today. In 2005 Alix started learning the viola after winning the Woodside Viola Scholarship through WAYMA. As a result her love for chamber music grew. She became a member of a number of string quartets and ensembles and performed at numerous weddings, balls and functions.

As there was not a strings program at her high school (Como Secondary College), Alix decided to learn the oboe, which she studied and played with the school’s concert band for 5 years. At the age of 15 she busked her way to Europe to attend the 14th international Suzuki Convention in Turin. This opened up huge doors in as she was able to listen to and learn from some of the best musicians and teachers the world has to offer. The friendships Alix made here were inspirational and as a result in December of 2007 she was given the opportunity to return to Europe, this time to Germany, where she had more orchestral and chamber experience as well as a chance to perform on the international stage. After studying TEE music Alix was awarded the top music student of her graduating class of 2007 which lead to being accepted into the West Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA). Here she is a member of the Faith Court Orchestra, numerous chamber ensembles and has so far been a part of the academy’s production of Oklahoma and The Crucible. It was here that she and Adam met, where their talent, enthusiasm and passion for music came together in order to create Ambrosia Ensembles.
