Cheeky Chic Cabaret

Clint Strindberg (voice) and Claire Bonner (guitar) have been playing music together for nearly as long as they've been friends.

Seldom seen without scarf (Clint) or coffee pot (Claire), the pair discovered that they enjoyed arranging and performing their favourite songs as much as talking about food and drinking coffee.

Now they’ve joined forces in the cabaret duo Cheeky Chic Cabaret, cooking up an eclectic mix of songs ranging from the comedy of Noel Coward to the refined poetry of 19th Century lieder –generously seasoned with french jazz and contemporary favourites, mixed with their own unique and quirky brand of comedy.

"I have never seen anything like this performance!"

Claire Bonner

An eccentric foodie and muso, Claire is a classically trained guitarist who hails from Tasmania but currently resides in Perth where she trains at the prestigious WAAPA.

Her musical palate gorges on everything from divine 19th Century operatic fantasies, to utterly infectious French jazz and well-adored contemporary music.

Claire is most often found playing her rare 19th Century guitar (pictured), which was traditionally played by women in hoity-toity salons. Claire chooses to ignore this aristocratic attitude and even plays without nails (a rare feature nowadays, though commonly done in the 19th C) but Claire feels, and the audiences agree, that it allows for greater story telling from this eccentric Tassie foodie.

Claire's professional engagements include masterclasses with international artists such as Karin Schaupp, Rafael Andia, Benjamin Verdery; and 19th century specialists Claudio Maccari and Paolo Pugliese, and Adrian Walter. She has appeared as guest artist for the WA Guitar Society, the 2010 Vienna Pops Concert (with Duncan Gardiner), and performed live on ABC radio.

“A captivating musician. Her individual style is a breath of fresh air amongst classical guitarists.”

Clint Strindberg

Clint originally wanted to be a podiatrist because they made lots of money. But when he realised that being a podiatrist meant he'd have to touch feet all day, he quickly changed his mind and set his sights on becoming a performer, torturing his parents with renditions of every song and play he knew. He is very grateful to them for having been either deaf or patient, and allowing him to pursue this goal.

Unlike Claire, Clint does not need to be eccentric. He has a trolley-bag which does all that for him, and a scarf just incase he meets his arch-nemesis, Air Con. Quick as a tenorial vocal crack, he whips out his Euco-Steam Inhaler and lobs it. Shortly after, you are likely to find Clint sitting and eating, looking completely innocent.

Clint is a cabaret performer from the Swan Valley, who also happens to be a classically trained singer, courtesy of WAAPA. His recent professional engagements include one of the leads in Tomfoolery (the hilarious Tom Lehrer Review), as Runner-up in the Julie Michael Musical Cabaret Prize, as composer and actor in 'Eileen' and most recently as Beau Brummel in English Eccentrics (directed by Stuart Maunder).

"Clint Strindberg is powerful, confronting and wonderful.
Thank you so much!"
