Gabbi Coenen - Jazz Singer

Combining the easy swing and girlish delight of Ella Fitzgerald with the laid back phrasing of Billie Holiday and the mellow tones of Peggy Lee, Gabbi Coenen is one of the emerging vocal talents in the Perth jazz scene. A clear, natural, youthful voice and a vibrant stage presence make her one of the more memorable and captivating young performers of today.
She has performed at some of WA’s top jazz venues including the Ellington Jazz Club and Jazz Fremantle, as well as other arts and entertainment venues such as the Perth Concert Hall and the Fly By Night Club.

Gabbi is currently in her 3rd year studying for a Bachelor in Music at the Western Australia Academy of Performing Arts. She is also a vocalist with the WA Youth Jazz Orchestra’s (WAYJO) Composer’s Ensemble, and was previously a member of the WAAPA Big Band and the Kalamunda Youth Swing Band, all three of which have served as a training ground for some of WA’s top jazz musicians.

Yet there is nowhere she is more comfortable than singing her favourite standards in a duo, trio or quartet setting. Gabbi takes influence from many artists, who range from jazz greats Sarah Vaughan, Carmen McRae, Blossom Dearie and Miles Davis, to modern and contemporary artists such as Michelle Nicolle, Gretchen Parlato, Corrine Bailey Rae and Norah Jones. Her repertoire ranges from musical theatre and Bossa Nova classics to modern jazz and singer-songwriter pop and folk songs. Perfect for background music or as a featured artist, Gabbi and her fellow musicians are sure to make your next event unforgettable.
